Peel Unveils £1 Billion Plans for Trafford Waters

March 2015

Peel Land & Property has announced plans for an innovative, mixed-use development to be known as Trafford Waters. The development, situated on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Trafford, close to the Trafford Leisure Village and intu Trafford Centre, will be a sustainable urban neighbourhood, with both a vibrant residential and a diverse business community.

The scheme will combine up to 3,000 high-density housing apartments, including many suitable for families, with approximately 875,000ft2 of high-specification commercial space, including offices, small-scale retail, leisure and community uses. Green corridors and waterways throughout the site will ensure that it is well-integrated, with large amounts of high-quality green space that will help sustain vitality and vibrancy and attract residents, businesses and visitors. Altogether, the proposal represents an investment of approximately £1 billion, and will create in excess of 5,000 jobs.

Commenting on the plans, James Whittaker, Development Director at Peel Land & Property, said, “We have been working on the vision and masterplan for Trafford Waters for over 15 years. It will be an exemplar, sustainable development that will create a space for a new community to live, work and play. The strong links with the intu Trafford Centre and Trafford Leisure Village and unrivalled transport connections, including the Trafford Park Metrolink extension, will make Trafford Waters the place to be.

“I am delighted that we are able to present plans which, if approved, will help address housing need in the area and provide new business and employment opportunities, all while regenerating and enhancing a prominent but underused site in a fantastic waterfront location. I am confident that Trafford Waters will be an asset to the entire region.”

Trafford Waters will be linked to the intu Trafford Centre by a Green Bridge, providing residents, employees and visitors with easy access to the bus station and Metrolink stop. The development will be well-situated for transport access by a range of transport options, and including cyclists and pedestrians. A number of road improvements already underway in the local area will ensure easy connections to the motorway network and wider region.

A two-day public exhibition has been arranged so that members of the local community can find out more about the proposals. Members of the project team will be on hand to talk people through the scheme and answer questions. The exhibition will be:

At: Venus, 1 Old Park Lane, Trafford Quays, Manchester, M41 7HA On: Thursday, 19 March from 3 pm to 7 pm and Saturday, 21 March from 11 am to 3 pm
