Peel Ports Group invested over £400 million constructing Liverpool2, a new deep-water container terminal at the Port of Liverpool, enabling the largest vessels to call directly in the heart of the UK to expand the UK's largest transatlantic port and create one of Europe's most advanced container terminals.

It was officially opened in November 2016. As one of the most operationally efficient and modern terminals in Northern Europe, it is capable of accommodating the world's largest container vessels, future-proofing the facility to allow global shippers 'ship-to-door' access to major import and centres at the heart of the UK.

In September 2019, Peel Ports pressed the button on the second phase of Liverpool2, investing in equipment and port infrastructure works to expand the terminal and introduce further leading-edge port technology solutions. This latest phase includes the installation of a further three ship to shore cranes (STS) and 10 cantilever rail mounted gantry cranes (CRMG). (The STS cranes sailed up the River Mersey on 2 December 2019) These will add to the previous five STS cranes and 12 CRMG cranes installed as part of Phase 1. Liverpool2 will have the capacity to manage the unloading of two 380m vessels simultaneously.

Peel Ports has also been working with businesses to remove 200 million road and rail freight miles from the UK network, reducing costs, carbon and congestion, by encouraging shipping lines to introduce direct deep-sea services at Liverpool2, closer to where their containers begin or end their journeys. And, in May 2018 Peel Ports, in partnership with DB Cargo UK, launched a container rail service between Port of Liverpool and Mossend.
